Welcome to Witches Brew.
Welcome, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Jo. I am a self taught artist.I have never had any "formal schooling" on how to draw. I just...draw. You can
imagine the look on my face when asked "love your work, what school did you go to,
to learn how to draw?"....LOL yipes...Was I suppose to?
Wiktionary defines the noun 'artist' as follows:
An artist is a person engaged in one or more of any of a broad spectrum of activities
related to creating art, practicing the arts and/or demonstrating an art
1. A person who creates art.
2. A person who creates art as an occupation.
3. A person who is skilled at some activity.
I think that best describes me....I'm an artist of many colors I guess. Art, to me, is alot of things, not just drawing. I am a firm believer, that everybody has an inner artist in them. An "artist" takes an idea, and creates.
I have dabbled in drawing & painting for many years. Since I was young actually. For me, it started when I was first able to ride my horse believe it or not. Seems kind of an odd start to my interest in drawing with a pencil and paper. But I can assure you that it will all make sense.
At a young age, I learned to ride a horse. My parents were avid equestrians at that time, and taught me all the things I needed to know about horses. Which set off , my fascination with them. How they felt, smelled, and how they looked when they moved. I wanted to capture, that graceful nature, and beauty of our horses. So, pencil and paper, and yes... markers and crayons, came out and I drew horses till I was blue in the face.
They were my first “muses” so to speak. I got really good at drawing them, and then moved on as I got older, to anything that seemed to interest me at that time. Art class at school was a breeze for me, it was my favorite class, although regrettably, I wish my other classes were so easy! Art class let me experiment with many media, and my art teacher at that time, was always encouraging. (Bless your heart Mr. Fritz!)
I enjoyed watching my teacher work , the man was a whiz with watercolor and could whip up a painting in a matter of a half hour, almost effortlessly. Inspired, I began using acrylics, as my medium of choice, but never really got the feel for it. Colored pencil was another, but always seemed a bit of a pain. I noticed that some of my best work, was done with just one or 2 colors of graphite pencil. So I stuck with it. I also have a deep love for witchcraft and anything pagan. I express this in my artwork.
I am also an avid gardener and have been studying herbalism for about 7 yrs now, I am after all a kitchen witch.
That being said, I hope you enjoy browsing my website.
